[edit] General Description
This commuter rail project will link the two largest employment clusters in Tarrant County.
The first line will connect downtown Fort Worth with DFW Airport and the DART "Orange Line". It includes direct access to airport terminals with a train station adjacent to both Terminals A and B.
The second line will extend from downtown Fort Worth to southwest Tarrant County serving the hospital district, TCU, Wedgewood, and Dirks Road/Altamesa.
For complete information on this project, see: http://www.sw2nerail.com/
[edit] Points in Favor
Mass transit succeeds in American cities that are willing to capitalize the infrastructure necessary. As the city of Fort Worth continues to grow, it cannot continue it's forever outward sprawl. Financially it is unsustainable. Improvements in mass transit will allow for denser more livable neighborhoods. For those who argue mass transit is not a profitable. When was the last time I-30 et al turned a profit? The profit comes from increased business, taxes, and property values near and around the expansions. Increased connections=increased commerce. You can save over $5,000 per year by elminating a second car and using public transit.
[edit] Points Against
There are those in outlying cities who argue against the cost-effectiveness and whether it is necessary to build some of the stations.
