Award Description: Walton County law enforcement has a duty to provide its citizens with adequate protection and quality service. Both the County Sheriff's office and central seated Monroe City are faced with an equipment crisis. Both departments are in need of up to date in-car and personnel equipment to allow for superior performance of crime scene, general investigation and traffic investigation/control programs to be not only effective but to impact the community with a positive force. The Walton County Sheriff's Office has initiated teh Zone-Based strategic plan derrived from overall Community Policing and patrol divisions and is enhanced by newly hired law enforcement personnel. The continuation of this program is reliant upon the outfitting of this personnel with in-car laptops and radio networks for immediate access to local, state and national databases for a higher degree of public safety operations. Monroe City Police has already updated their program for traffic safety; however are combating out of date equipment and insufficient data collection resources. They believe that by enhancing traffic enforcement program throughout the city boundaries the department will be able to reduce the number of traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities and also reduce crime overall through high visibility traffic enforcement throughout the City. The Walton County's sheriff's office is preparing to to install two in-car laptops, f hand held portable network accessible radios, and 2 in-car network accessible radios. Monroe Police department is preparing to purchase and install updated in-car video and radar diction devices as well as speed/data collection equipment/software.
