Award Description: Ohio EPA was awarded a State Clean Diesel Program Grant to fund a retrofit project targeting school bus fleets in the state of Ohio. The general purpose of the grant is to reduce diesel emissions and improve air quality.
Project Description: During this quarter, 16 school buses were retrofitted with diesel oxidation catalysts and closed crankcase filtration systems. Seven of these 16 buses were retrofitted by sub-recipient Bloom Carroll Local Schools, and paid from the grant. Nine of these 16 school buses were retrofitted by two other sub-recipients, but not yet paid because they have other retrofits still in progress. Four other sub-recipients have ordered equipment, and are awaiting delivery or conducting temperature testing preparatory to beginning equipment installations in October. One sub-recipient is re-bidding their equipment purchase. During this quarter, Ohio EPA also received 32 new applications for school bus retrofit projects, requesting more than $2.5 million. These applications are currently under review. Ohio EPA expects to announce awards to new sub-recipients in October, 2009, that will allocate all remaining stimulus funds from this grant.
Jobs Summary: Prime recipient and sub-recipients report no jobs created or retained to date. Vendors, who are diesel emission control technology manufacturers, are expected to report job benefits as additional retrofit projects are completed by sub-recipients. (Total jobs reported: 0)
Project Status: Less Than 50% Completed
