Award Description: This award is to provide temporary wage increases to Head Start employees, provide opportunities for post-secondary education to Head Start teachers, make safety and improvements to the physical environment, and make available appropriate trainings to Head Start staff which will support services to address challenges of specific populations, promote language and literacy, and improve strategic planning, needs assessment, and collaboration.
Project Description: Head Start employees received a temporary wage increase effective September 1. Two Head Start staff registered for classes at a local university. A Head Start staff person attended the 2009 Pre-service Fatherhood Trainer program; a Head Start staff traveled to Greensboro, NC to attend the CLASS Train the Trainer; nine Head Start staff attended the two day 2009 Preschool/Kindergarten Institute; staff from seven classrooms participated in the two day Imagine It (Open Court) training; a Head Start Transportation Manager traveled to Reno, NV to attend the School Transportation Expo Conference; three transportation staff were attendees at the Washington State Pupil Transportation Association Conference and Training in Spokane, WA; a storage shed for playground equipment was purchased; and repairs were completed to a Head Start facility that had suffered exterior water damage.
