Award Description: ARRA Increase Services to Health Centers
Project Description: ARRA funds are used to increase and expand existing comprehensive primary medical and dental healthcare services to improve the health status of the under/uninsured to address the unmet needs in the community. IDS funding used to increase capacity through the addition of full-time providers and support staff to bring full-time adult and pediatric services at Paulsboro and Clementon NJ, add evening dental hours at Gateway, and to restore capacity to the two main sites at the East Camden and Gateway Health Centers. Funding will create 19 new jobs and includes hiring three providers (one internist, one pediatric nurse practitioner, and one dentist), support staff for the providers (5 medical assistants, 4 dental assistants), and increased organizational efficiency (3 receptionist/financial screeners, and 4 operators). As of September 30, 2009, the end of the 2nd quarter, CAMcare hired all positions except one Internal medicine vacancy. Recruiting efforts are underway. Full-time adult and pediatric services at Paulsboro and Clementon are now established. CAMcare also added evening hours for dental services at the Gateway Health Center in March 2009, in anticipation of receipt of ARRA funding. During the 3rd quarter, CAMcare anticipates hiring an internist. By end of third quarter we hope to have all 19 positions staffed in fulfillment of our funding requirement.
