Award Description: ARRA - Nurse Faculty Loan Program (NFLP) - Wayne State University will issue loans to eligible students for the cost of tuition, fees, books, lab expenses, and other reasonable education expenses.

Project Description: During the quarter ARRA Nurse Faculty Loans were provided to seven (7) students enrolled in an advanced nurse education program at Wayne State University. Loans totalling $47,500 (including University match) were awarded for the Fall 2009 Semester. The purpose is to increase the number of doctoral nursing graduates interested in teaching. Also, to recruit doctoral applicants who, if possible, are from traditionally underrepresented backgrounds in the discipline of nursing and who met the criteria for admission to the graduate school of Wayne State University and the College of Nursing. Secondly, to offer support through the NFLP to students to improve completion and retention rates. The purpose also is to offer support through the NFLP to assist students with completing the doctorate program in the seven year (average) of the University. Lastly, increase the number of doctoral graduates and, where possible, increase the diversity of nurse faculty by increasing representation from underrepresented minorities.
