Award Description: During this quarter, Peak Vista received and implemented a Capital Improvement Program (CIP) grant focused on three Alteration/Renovation and Equipment projects for our clinics. Project 1 is an Alteration/Renovation project. This project will allow us to make improvements to our Family Health Center at Union, through replacing of the roof and the repair of the existing parking lot. Funds will be used to pay for these two repairs. Project 2 is an Equipment project. This two part project will allow us to replace outdated equipment that has met or exceeded its lifespan and to increase Electronic Health Records (EHR) capacity. Funds will be used to purchase new equipment and IT infrastructure. Project 3 is an Alteration/Renovation project for our newest administrative site known as Peak Vista Administration Center (PVAC). Through this project, we will move some of our administrative services to a new site. The current administrative building, known as Peak Vista Community Health Centers, is at our main campus and houses our administrative staff. Growth has resulted in cramped and inefficient working quarters and no ability to accommodate existing and future growth. Our current administrative departments have seen significant growth in clinical services from a four year increase of patients of 29% and encounters of 26%. In order to accommodate this growth, the several departments are moving to a new facility, allowing other departments to expand their departments at the current location. PVAC will become the home for our Customer Service Center, Medical Records Department, IT Data Department, Medicaid Application Site and other administrative staff. Based on future growth projections, the new site is large enough to accommodate any future growth to these departments for many years to come. Funds will be used to purchase cubicle furnishings and electrical work for this site.
Project Description: Project 2 is an Equipment project to replace outdated equipment that has met or exceeded its lifespan and to increase Electronic Health Records (EHR) capacity. We installed a certified EHR system in 2006, anticipating a modest annual growth but have realized high levels of growth. Since 2005, our patient population has increased 29% and our encounters have increased 26%. Upgrades to the existing capacity of the system will allow for efficient capture and delivery of health information between our patients and providers. Existing capacity overloads have resulted in providers in the exam room with the patient having to wait as long as eight minutes to access their EHR chart. Upgrades to the system should eliminate any delays to chart retrieval, making the patient encounter seamless in respect to EHR. This project will impact all Peak Vista’s sites and is currently underway, scheduled for completion June 2011. To date, we have installed EHR server upgrades, Microsoft Office Enterprise upgrades, installed a 100mg microwave connection, and over 140 new desktop systems. Project 3 is an Alteration/Renovation project for our newest administrative site known as Peak Vista Administration Center (PVAC). Through this project, we will move some of our administrative services to a new site. This project is currently underway and expected to be completed by October 30, 2009.
