Award Description: Federal support will assist the Kansas Primary Care Office in its work with the National Health Service Corps and Underserved Areas Designation through supplementing existing federal support for the activities of the Primary Care Office under its cooperative agreement with HRSA. This funding will temporarily (3 years) increase by .5 FTE the staffing of the Kansas Primary Care Office to develop workforce data and respond to increased workload due to increased funding to the National Health Service Corps under the ARRA initiative. The PCO will target areas of the state for expanded technical assistance related to NHSC loan repayment, due to the fact that these areas' low Health Professional Shortage Area scores will not impede these otherwise eligible sites from recruiting or retaining loan repayors under the ARRA initiative. The new .5 FTE position of Workforce Data Analyst will also assist in the evaluation of Recruitment and Retention application requests and will work with local sites and providers interested in participating in the NHSC. The Workforce Data Anlyst will also participate in outreach and program awareness activities in the state for the NHSC through attending health professions job fairs and other activities with a focus on recruiting professionals into underserved areas of the state. The Workforce Data Analyst will also assist with data collection and analysis for underserved areas designation activities and with data collection and analysis for the annual statewide needs assessment produced by the Primary Care Office.
Project Description: During this quarter, the Primary Care Office initiated the process to hire the .5 FTE Workforce Data Analyst and develop the data sharing agreement internal to the Kansas Department of Health and Environment for data necessary to underserved areas designation. This .5 FTE staff member will be hired and begin work early in the next quarter of funding.
