Award Description: ARRA Cost of Living Adjustment and Quality Improvement consistent with the provisions of of Section 640(a)(5) of the Head Start Act. The funding provides a 1.84% cost of living adjustment for head start and early head start employees. The quality improvement funding provides resources to increase wages and fringe benefits for teachers, assistant teachers and family partners. The agency will be able to assist teaching staff with secondary education costs. The agency is also providing updated curriculm training and materials for its head start and early head start employees. The agency is also pursuing the purchase of a facility currently being used for one of its head start service locations. The head start center is located in a rural area of our county and is a vital part of the community for 40 families. The property is currently for sale. The agency's ability to continue its use of the facility is crucical to our ability to deliver program services in that area.
Project Description: The agency has provided the Head Start and Early Head Start staff with a 1.84% cost of living adjustment effective 8/1/09. In addition the agency has increased its share of health insurance premiums for assistant teachsers to improve the benefits package for these part-time employees. Wages have been increased for teachers, assistant teachers and family partners. The agency has purchased updated curriculum materials for both progams and is in the process of scheduling additional training that can be provided with the quality improvement funding. The agency is in the processing of hiring a early head start partner to enhance our mental and disabilities services provided for infants and toddlers. The agency has submitted the required application and documents for the purchase of property to continue operating one of its sites and is waiting approval from Department of Health and Human Services.
