Award Description: The award is for Cost of Living Adjustment(COLA) of 1.84% in the amount of $211,610 and Quality Improvement(QI) in the amount of $623,580 for Head Start.
Project Description: The 1.84% in additional COLA made possible through ARRA funding impacted 255 Head Start employees. Although the funding is temporary in nature the increase in salary-ranges were helpful in keeping up with the Consumer Price Index (CPI) during these difficult economic times. Approximately, $308K was used from the Quality Improvement (QI) portion of the budget to make necessary repairs and rehabilitation of our 442 Head STart site in the Leeward area. The scope of work involved removal of lead-based hazardous components and their safe disposal off-island per applicable requirements The severely damaged exterior walls were also replaced. Structural deterioration due to termite damages were repaired and replaced including all doors and windows. Materials and supplies used were procured from local distributors and included, but were not limited to, lumber, drywall, aluminum, surround jailousies, solid wood core doors, hardware for doors, aluminum security screens, fasteners, primers and paint. QI funds were also used for education, job training, and related staff development activities.
