Award Description: to support the preservation of jobs that are threatened by declines in philanthropic and other support during the economic downturn, as described in application A09-904692 and the approved project budget.

Project Description: 5 artistic positions retained (3 conductors and 2 piano accompanists). The conductors bring choral and sight-singing instruction, music theory classes, performance opportunities and valuable mentoring opportunities to students in the Greater Boston area with emphasis on underserved communities. Each position is actively engaged in defining and selecting the repertoire, scheduling and conducting rehearsals and concerts, recruiting, building, mentoring and training several hundreds of students from Grade 3-12 enrolled in the VAP program. Piano accompanists accompany choirs at rehearsals and concerts.
