The proposed project is designed to investigate the mechanism by which Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding lead to improvements in glycemia. In addition, the project will study the level of acceptance of surgical treatment of type II diabetes among physicians, providers, and insurance companies.
