Award Description: AmeriCorps members will assist various school districts, city agencies, and a non-profit agency in providing tutoring, mentoring, after-school program, volunteer recruitment, housing rehabilitation in low-income communities. Success will be measured dependent on a specific program by reading improvement, number of volunteers recruited per member, college applications filed and units rehabilitated.
Project Description: OVCS Virginia ARRA AmeriCorps programs (five) will utilize their Stimulus grants to support the ongoing efforts of their program members and staff towards community and national service needs in their respective service communities. 832 clients will receive tutoring and literacy services; enhanced employment and skills training and counseling; services related to financial literacy; and 20 existing homes & structures will be rehabilitated, weatherized, or made more energy efficient. The services will be completed by 54 AmeriCorps members.
