Award Description: The purpose of this award is to assist the grantee in carrying out a national service program as authorized by the National and Community Service Act of 1990, as amended (42 U.S.C. §12501 et seq.) and in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
Project Description: Through the first reporting quarter (Feb 17 – Sept 30), subrecipient programs served approximately 5,155 citizens in Pennsylvania communities through activities such as Summer Enrichment Activities and Day Camps that benefit children aged 14 and under; Tutoring and Training aimed at youth from elementary through high school; General Community Services benefiting a wide range of citizens such as the homeless, mentally handicapped, youths in foster care, and other groups; and Community Renovations or New Construction for all residents.
Jobs Summary: Due to Recovery Act funding, AmeriCorp programs created 120 positions (68.19 FTE) that have been filled. Member positions include summer day camp coordinators, program leaders, academic tutors, youth mentors, after-school program facilitators, jobs skill instructors, and literacy counselors.
