Award Description: ARRA - Increased Demand for Services (IDS) GPHA proposes to increase service capacity and expand access in the following areas: 1) com-prehensive primary care pediatrics, 2) preventive and restorative dental services for pediatric patients, from age 1 through age 18, and perinatal patients, and 3) perinatal and reproductive health care.
Project Description: During the second quarter under ARRA funding, Greater Philadelphia Health Action, Inc. (GPHA) consolidated progress achieved during the first quarter, successfully adding new health care providers and creating new support staff positions. Loris Tinianow, DMD, Pediodontist, joined GPHA?s professional staff on July 27, 2009. Dr. Tinianow provides comprehensive dental services to pediatric and adolescent patients and is experienced in the care of very young children and infants. Dr. Tinianow rotates to all GPHA dental sites in order to increase access to pediatric dental services. An additional 1.0 FTE dental assistant was hired in order to provide adequate support for expanded dental services. Juan Diaz, MD, Obstetrician-Gynecologist, joined GPHA?s professional staff on September 28, 2009. Dr. Diaz provides comprehensive gynecological care, ambulatory procedures such as colposcopy, prenatal care, and hospital-based services including but not limited to surgery and deliveries. The addition of Dr. Diaz to the staff created a new position ? the OB/GYN Medical Assistant ? which was filled on September 24, 2009. GPHA continues to face challenges in recruiting a Spanish-speaking pediatrician; however, a Family Practitioner, P----- Bhogal, MD, was recruited for Frankford Avenue Health Center (FAHC) in order to expand services to children and adolescents. Dr. Bhogal joined the staff on September 14, 2009. Currently, Dr. Bhogal is covering an unexpected medical leave for a physician at another site. Upon this doctor?s return to staff, Dr. Bhogal will transfer to FAHC to concentrate on expansion of pediatric and adolescent services. At that time, an additional 1.0 FTE medical assistant will be added to the staff. Recruitment efforts for a Spanish-speaking pediatrician will continue.
