Award Description: ARRA Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA), and Quality Improvement Funding consistent with the provisions of Section 640(a)(5) of the Head Start Act
Project Description: Project Description ARRA COLA and Quality funds will be use to: Hire 6- full-time staff: 3- Education Coordinators, 2- Family Advocate Health Specialist Positions, and a Community Education Coordinator. Provide for occupancy cost associated with the relocation of 100 children served at the East Carey location due to a flooded building. Provide professional development to teaching staff to improve staff qualifications Provide Spanish classes to promote bilingual language skills to staff in response to the need of our population. Fifteen education staff will become mentor teachers and provide a teaching classroom so all teachers can improve their skills and expertise. Increase the compensation and benefits of staff through a cost of living adjustment to improve the overall quality of the program. An increase of pay to promote a higher salary range structure to further reach the goal to retain qualified staff will be given. This is above and beyond the 1.84% COLA given to all staff. Quarterly Activities The following staffs have been hired: 3- Education Coordinators, 2- Family Advocate Health Specialist Positions, and a Community Education Coordinator Seven educational staffs have become mentor teachers A partnership was initiated and classes started with the University of North Las Vegas to expedite a Bachelors degree in Early Childhood for 30 staff. The instructor has been identified, books have been ordered, and the development of a webcam is in progress for classes to promote bilingual language skills to staff. (64) Teachers, (83)Teacher Assistants, (40) Family Advocates, and (13) Center Directors received an increase of pay to promote a higher salary range structure to further reach the goat to retain qualified staff. All staff received a cost of living adjustment effective July 1, 2009 of 1.84%.
