Award Description: This award will allow for the construction of an addition to Mason Manor Retirement Community to add an elevator and storage space for the residents. The funding provided for this project can be expected to result in providing employment for architects and engineers, construction workers and production manufacturers. In addition, it will improve the quality of life for the residents by providing a larger elevator to accommodate move-ins and move-outs as well as ease of use and improved care during emergency situations which would require the use of a gurney. The additional storage space will eliminate clutter in the units which could become a fire hazard, and will improve the quality of the living environment for the residents.
Project Description: This quarter the project included meeting with the architect, drawing of preliminary plans for the Mason Manor addition, follow up meetings, involvement of engineers, approval by GBHA, decision-making discussions, revision of plans, and notification of affected parties. Energy efficiencies in this project include windows to allow natural light into the storage area and motion/noise sensory overhead lighting.
