Award Description: Government Services Fund for public safety and other government services, which may include assistance for elementary and secondary education and public institutions of higher education, and for modernization, renovation, or repair of public school facilities and institutions of higher education facilities, including modernization, renovation, and repairs that are consistent with a recognized green building rating.
Project Description: For the Government Services Fund, 16.3% has been allocated for elementary and secondary education. In addition, 1.2% of the Government Services Fund has been allocated for colleges and universities across the State for the NJ Tuition Aid Grant program, the funding for which flows directly from the State to the Institutions of Higher Education. The expenditures for the remaining 82.5% have been allocated for public safety, more specifically for personnel expenses for state correctional facilities.
Jobs Summary: With regard to the Government Services Fund dollars used for K-12, 622 positions were created or retained. Of those, 211 were instructional, 64 were related to student support programs, 37 were administrative, and 310 were undetermined. With regard to the Government Services Fund dollars used for higher education, 59.03 positions were created or retained. Of those, 8 were full-time faculty, 13.02 were administrative, 12.88 were clerical, and 25.13 were adjunct positions. With regard to the Government Services Fund dollars used for public safety/corrections, these funds enabled the State to avert layoffs of state workers across state government for the FY 2010 fiscal year. This enabled the State to retain 2447 FTEs. Of those, 168 were administrative, 683 were program or management staff, 113 were legal or compliance staff, 7 were IT positions, and 1,476 were undetermined.
