Award Description: Invest in public transportation by purchasing low-floor replacement buses and paratransit vans for service expansion, renovate and rehabilitate its fleet maintenance facility and administrative offices housed in historical Union Station, construct a river maintenance facility, install security and access control equipment at all facilities, provide updated bus shelters and better access by constructing sidewalks, recover a portion of contracting costs for river operations, and expand the real-time bus information system for waiting passenters. As a result of these investments, the transit agency will be able to offer public transportation service that is safer, more reliable, more environmentally friendly and more accessible for people with disabilities.

Project Description: This grant allowed COTPA to purchase ten low-floor replacement buses and 11 paratransit vans for service expansion, renovate and rehbilitate two its facilities, construct a river transit maintenance facility, construct bus shelters and improve access to bus shelters, contract for river transit operations and maintenance, expand/install intelligent transportations system technology on 91 vehicles/buses.

Infrastructure Description: COTPA is using this grant to purchase low-floor replacement buses and paratransit vans for service expansion, renovate and rehabilitate its fleet maintenance facility and administrative offices housed in historical Union Station, construct a river maintenance facility, install security and access control equipment at all facilities, provide updated bus shelters and better access by constructing sidewalks, recover a portion of contracting costs for river operations, and expand the real-time bus information system for waiting passenters. The projects funded under this grant will invest in transportation, environmental protection and other infrastructure that will provide long-term economic benefits. These investments will also contribute to preserving and maintaining jobs and promoting economic recovery in the vehicle manufacturing and construction industry.
