Award Description: GSBS Architects was awarded a recommissioning study under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act for the Wallace F. Bennett Building in Salt Lake City, UT. GSBS Architects hired EMC Engineers, Inc to provide engineering and commissioning expertise. The building was built in 1963 to provide office space for the GSA and other various agencies. In 2002, the building had a $27 million major renovation that includes seismic upgrade, new façade, and new lighting system. The chillers were recently replaced. The building contains 382,862 square feet of office space, small data centers, exercise center, small café operations, and enclosed parking. The recommissioning study focuses on building systems that affects energy use and indoor environment. Such building systems include: central plant equipment, air handlers, terminal boxes, lighting systems, motor efficiency, building controls, and plumbing systems. The deliverables of the recommissioning study include: Initial site visit report, functional test plan, draft and final recommissioning study report, and, depriefing with GSA and other parties.
