Award Description: The Crime Reduction Mobile Camera Project for the Parksdale Area of Madera County will provide funds to purchase several mobile cameras and a server for sheriff's deputy vehicles. Currently our vehicles are not equipped with recording and monitoring cameras and our officers rely solely on their written reports. The cameras will record the officer's view of the front windshield and an independent corroboration of facts will be captured. This will allow the Department to have visual records of crimes in progress, which is useful for crime scene analysis and resolution. The cameras will also validate that officers are following procedures and the law in the public view. Public awareness of the program can deter crime and aggression against officers. All of the above will assist officers in patrolling the area more efficiently and in turn will reduce the crime rate in and around the Parksdale Area. Funds made available by USDA, RD, CFG, ARRA, precluded potential termination of employees.
