Award Description: BRCHC (Kaniksu Health Services) will build a new facility in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. BRCHC owns the land and has invested approximately $70,000 in architectural designs. When completed the BRCHC Bonners Ferry site will offer 9,029 square feet, housing medical, mental health, dental and administration under a single roof. Medical exam rooms will increase from 7 to 12, dental operatories will grow from 3 to 4 and mental health counseling offices will operate from 4 rooms instead of 3 rooms. By collocating all services under a single roof the new space will reduce utility costs, improve integration and quality of care between multiple services, improve efficiencies and increase revenues. At a minimum BRCHC is projecting it will see an additional 75 visits per month, or 900 annually. This will be a result of gained efficiency and space. Also, as BRCHC is able, it will implement electronic medical records technology. With all services under a single roof costs for implementing this program will be reduced. The current two-site design requires that duplicative costs are incurred. This will be minimized under a single roof. BRCHC’s service area is remote, rural yet quite large geographically. This fact often requires people to drive long distances to access simple services. The improvements proposed for this project will enable the organization to provide all required services under one roof making the larger program more effective. The efficient use of additional space will spread current fixed overhead expenses over three programs rather than one. The likelihood that patients with limited means and facing transportation barriers will keep referrals for needed services will increase due to the improved accessibility. In turn, more kept referrals among this population will contribute to the likelihood improved health outcomes for all patients.
