Award Description: The Texas Department of Agriculture received bunds through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA) to pay costs associated with the distribution of USDA foods donated for use in The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP). Such costs include (but are not limited to) storage, trannsportation, handling, processing, and distribution of such foods; as well as costs associated with determining and verifying beneficiary eligibility, record keeping, auditing, and other administrative procedures required for program participation. To date, the Texas Department of Agriculture has: 1. Provided funds to organizations-such as food banks, food pantries, and soup kitchens- that administrer the program at the local level; 2.
Project Description: During the current reporting period, Texas Department of Agriculture and its 15 subrecipients used TEFAP administrative funds provided through ARRA, to transport, handle, strore, and process TEFAP foods in preparation for utlimate distribution to program participants, which includes persons living in areas with incomes below the poverty level and the unemployed. 100% of the administrative funds will be distributed to support local organizations, such as Food Banks, Food Pantries, Soup Kitchens, etc.
