Award Description: The supplement will allow us to purchase equipment that will allow much more efficient microbiologic evaluation of respiratory and serum specimens collected from volunteers. Two freezers will be purchased to allow storage of patient samples. The equipment will facilitate the efficient running of the project.
Project Description: The project will define predictors of low risk of bacterial infection in patients hospitalized with viral respiratory infection. Ultimately these data will be used to limit uneeded antibiotic use.
