Award Description: The Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) provides a unique resource of data and statistical expertise to the scientific community for addressing important issues in hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT). It is comprised of a network of >400 HCT centers that share data on HCT outcomes and a Statistical Center that maintains a clinical database with information for >300,000 HCT recipients. U24-CA76518 provides the primary support for development of the CIBMTR’s database and the statistical support provided to users. The aim of this supplemental project is to optimize and strengthen the functionality of the CIBMTR’s web presence to provide better access to HCT information to the scientific community and the public, to provide training and support to the international group of transplant centers who provide outcomes data to the CIBMTR, to create a shared communications and networking environment for transplant centers and CIBMTR Working Committees and to provide web-based access for scientific researchers to the CIBMTR HCT databases and other resources. This project will develop and integrate the following sites, each with its own set of users, level of access and communication functions: Main Site (Public): http://www.cibmtr.org This Web Site functions as an information source for the public and the scientific research community. It is currently under revision using non-NIH funds to enhance its content and ease of navigation. No funds are requested for these activities. However, the project proposed in this request will further enhance www.cibmtr.org by providing a greater degree of interaction capabilities so that users may tailor their requests to obtain information of maximal usefulness. Collaborative Site: https://collaborate.cibmtr.org The Collaboration Web Site will be the primary avenue for communication among existing and potential CIBMTR research groups. Proposals for new studies will be shared as well as data and discussions regarding ongoing studies. It will serve as an archive for all CIBMTR study-related materials and as the main communication tool for CIBMTR Working Committees. The site will incorporate user level access and password systems to restrict access to confidential data to appropriate investigators, e.g. members of a writing committee for a particular study, Working Committee chairs for all studies in their committee, etc Portal Site: https://portal.cibmtr.org The Portal Web Site will provide more fluid access to the CIBMTR database and repository resources. Security measures will be strictest here with stringent provisions to ensure confidentiality of teams and patients. One important use of the portal will be allow centers to view and analyze their own previously submitted data, a capability that does not currently exist and which has been requested by centers in several surveys of center needs.

To date, an ASP.Net developer has been identified and hired to start the web presense security framework analysis and design. The CIBMTR will continue to review and interview candidates for other project positions and the immediate milestone for the Web Presence project is to assemble the project team by October 31, 2009.
