Award Description: The COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire adn/or rehire career law enforcement officers in an effort to create adn preserve jobs, and to increase their community policing capacity adn crime prevention efforts.
Project Description: During this reporting period the Jamestown Police Department initiated a hiring process and added one new position. That officer begins duties 10/16/2009. This grant has allowed the appointment of a School Resource Officer who began his duties in the schools October 5th, 2009. This additional position has allowed us to begin the School Resource Officer duties full time. Currently the School Resource Officer is initiating programs building report with facality and students and performing his Resource Officer duties to all of the schools. Our goal for Community Policing with this position is to build strong relationships with these school administration, facality, staff and most importantly the students through direct interaction in the schools. A short and long term goal is to identify behavior problems, prevent crime and develop long term solutions to the interaction between police and students behavior. Another goal is to access the effectiveness of police response to all issues involving students and provide a safe learning environment for all students. . The school district and the Jamestown Police Department are committed to make this position work and develop a positive rapport between police and students.
