Award Description: Program Quality Improvement and ARRA COLA

Project Description: Spanish Classes: This project is still in the planning process. CSB Personnel Services Assistant II has met with the appropriate managers to discuss the specific needs of CSB staff communications with Spanish-speaking children and families. Improving Countywide Strategic Planning: CSB staff are in the process of evaluating the Business Intelligen System as a data evaluation application as well as evaluating options for a web-based demographic online survey system. Human Resources and Mental Health unit business requirements are being evaluated to determine the best option. Staff have been in contact with AT&T and Dynamic Computer Corp. regarding a child safety and attendance tracking system. Delegate Program Improvements: CSB's delegate agency was allotted funding to 1) purchase a cargo van; 2) improve web-based applications to support communitywide strategic planning and needs assessment; 3) replace existing phone system; 4) purchase surveillance cameras for childcare sites; and 5) redesign their webpage. All projects are currently in the bidding process. CLASS Implementation: A consultant has been contracted to train classroom staff. CSB Facility Upgrades: GMIII Center ordered outdoor playground enhancement items. Marsh Creek Center's interior walls were painted. Las Deltas is purchasing an outdoor shade structure. Partner Facility Improvements: Cambride Center, Fairgrounds, and Kid's Castle aree receving bids for services. Work will be underway by the next reporting period. Nap Rap: A needs evaluation was completed by site staff. Flyers have been distrubuted. Domestic Violence Training: Contract request submitted to the contracts unit. Child Abuse Prevention and Intervention Training: Contract request submitted to the contracts unit. DECA: Roles and responsibilities outlines. Resilience training was held at Balboa Center. Let's Talk: A needs evaluation was completed by site staff. Flyers have been distributed.

Jobs Summary: Two instructors will be hired to facilitate conversational Spanish classes for staff. One Comprehensive Services Manager was retained for Head Start and Early Head Start Partner child care programs who provides educational monitoring, support and consultation. One part-time marriage and family therapy intern has been employed to conduct support groups for teachers during nap time. One part-time marriage and family therapy intern has been employed to conduct support groups for parents and one part-time marriage and family therapy intern will be contracted to lead domestic violence and child abuse prevention and intervention training.
