Award Description: The purpose of this award is to assist the grantee in carrying out a national service program as authorized by the National and Community Service Act of 1990, as amended (42 U.S.C. § 12501 et seq.) and in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

Project Description: Boys&Girls Clubs Milw: Tutor/environment ed/youth leadership training economically disadvantaged youth. Dane Cty Human Svcs: In agencies serving youth, response to increasing area unemployment. Easter Seals WI: Meet needs of disabled by addressing shortage of respite care and qualified respite providers; address need for voc rehab in rural areas, provide rec opportunities, disaster preparedness in economically disadvantaged areas. Indianhead Comm. Action: Manage volunteers at const sites and on other service projects for WI Fresh Start Program. Milw Christian Ctr: Members provide skills training, educational development, financial literacy, and basic life skills. Milw Teacher Edu Ctr: Continuing ed for teachers to maintain or gain employment in high need teacher cert area in Milw Public Schools. Operation Fresh Start: Offset staff wages/fringe benefits costs. Partners for Comm Dev.: Provide weatherization and energy conservation services in Sheboygan area to low income family homes. Public Allies: Meet needs of Milw residents that are unemployed, homeless, in need of food. United Way Dane Cty: Tutor low-income, racially diverse, ELL children struggling to achieve academically in high school, particularly in math. Wausau Area Hmong Mutual Assn: Receive mental health/life skills counseling, work readiness skills, residential construction experience, credits for renewable energy or construction and GED/HSED tutoring. Western Dairyland EOC: Develop, implement financial literacy curriculum for homeowners, agency clients. Will work with Fresh Start Program to develop and enhance vol recruitment, services. WI Dept of Agriculture, Trade, Consumer Protection: Financial literacy education for farm families, connecting to financial experts to help identify steps to avoid foreclosure, foreclosure education; help farm families connect to financial assistance. YMCA of Metro Milw: Provide youth and adults with access to health centered programs to bring stability to community.

Jobs Summary: Due to Recovery funding, we created and retained 122 AmeriCorps member positions. These members provided the activities described in the project description section. We also created and retained 29 staff positions. (Total jobs reported: 101)
