Award Description: Mississippi Action for Community Education, Inc. is a non-profit 501(c)(3)organization which manages a multiple stream of funding from the Corporation for National and Community Service; the Kellogg Foundation; the Ford Foundation; the Mid-South Local Initiatives Support Corporation; Foundation for the Mid-South; the U. S. Department of Labor; the U. S. Small Business Administration; the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; and the U. S. Dept. of Agriculture. M.A.C.E. also is supported by and partners with eight faith-based community development corporations in the Mississippi Delta area; the Washington County Youth Court; the Hope Credit Union; the 1st Delta Credit Union; Mississippi Delta Community College; Mississippi Valley State University; and the Federal Home Loan Bank. The classroom training and worksite of YouthBuild Mississippi Delta will be administered and operated in Washington and Humphreys counties of Mississippi by MACE, which has a 40-year history of operation. The YouthBuild Mississippi Delta Program will work in partnership with the Workforce Investment Area WIN (One Stop) Center; the Washington County and Humphreys County Public Schools; the Mississippi Delta Community College and Mississippi Valley State University; and with the MS Dept. of Correction; the United Brotherhood Carpenters and Joiners of America; and South Delta - Delta Workforce Investment Area.

Project Description: MACE recruited and hired a program director and construction manager. The program director attended the MIS Training in Boston, MA and both program director and construction manager attended the YouthBuild fundamentals in Ft. Worth, TX. The program director has concentrated on outreach potential for participants through press releases and TV advertising. On September 22-24, 2009, orientation was held and contact was made with 48 potential participants. The TABE locator test has been given to 66 potential participants.
