Award Description: American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (Recovery Act) promotes diversity among health professions students and practitioners by providing scholarships for students from disadvantaged backgrounds. As an eligible health professions and nursing school, UTEP applied for funds to make scholarships to students from disadvantaged backgrounds, with financial need for scholarships and are enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, as full-time students at UTEP. These scholarships will be expended for tuition expenses, other reasonable educational expenses, and reasonable living expenses incurred for the year while at UTEP. Preference for these scholarships is given to students from disadvantaged backgrounds for who the costs of attending the school would constitute a severe financial hardship.
