Award Description: Increased Demand For Services at Health Centers. NOTE: Received 2 NGA's on this: 3/27/09 $198420 PLUS 9/18/09 $1000 for TOTAL of $199420. My 9/18/09 date was rejected as a 'significant error' by Federal Reporting website. 3/27/09 NGA will NOT match the full $199420.
Project Description: Funds were awarded in anticipation of increased demand for CHC services in large part due to current economic meltdown. Our services are provided largely to uninsured patients (over 50%) or underinsured patients (Medicaid ~33%). Funds were to be used for increasing staffing for direct patient care, i.e., part time nurse practitioner, part time dentist, social worker, and outreach worker. To date we have not hired a social worker, and have actually just replaced a previously employed nurse practitioner. We have hired a part time dentist as well as the part time outreach worker.
Jobs Summary: Through the end of the 3rd quarter the Center has been able to bring on some portion of the staff anticipated in its initial application. The Center had indicated 4.25 FTE's in its application in March and although delayed somewhat, has filled 3 of the key spots of a .4 FTE Dentist, 1.0 FTE Nurse practitioner (though only .6 FTE applied for), and a .5 prenatal outreach worker. Some direct (medical assistant) and indirect (front desk intake) support staff have also been hired. Since these staff were not hired immediately after receipt of the grant, and some were hired for more hours than anticipated in the grant, the overall net effect is that an additional 2.61 FTE's YTD have been brought on board in the areas anticipated. (Total jobs reported: 3)
