Award Description: This award will produce a map of sea surface temperatures during the Early Pliocene warm period, and an integrated set of computer model experiments. The observations and modeling comparison will be used to study ocean heat transport and mixing, atmospheric heat transport and energetics, and an evaluation of how these processes are represented in climate models. This evaluation will enhance our understanding of the climatic and oceanic response to global warming.
