Award Description: Invest in public transportation by purchasing three (3) new compressed natural gas (CNG) transit buses, and rehabilitating a City Maintenance Shop to provide upgrades necessitated by the City's conversion to CNG vehicles.
Project Description: This grant has allowed the City of Porterville transit agency to purchase three (3) low-floor CNG-fueled transit buses, and to assist with construction costs incurred to provide upgrades to the City Maintenance Shop necessitated by the City's conversion to CNG vehicles. As a result of these investments, the transit agency will be able to offer public transportation service that is safer, more reliable, more environmentally friendly, and more accessible for people with disabilities. The three transit buses have been ordered, with an expected delivery date of October, 2010. The construction phase of the upgrades to the City Maintenance Shop is anticipated to begin early Spring, 2010, with an expected completion date of late Spring, 2010.
Jobs Summary: This grant funds three (3) low-floor CNG-fueled transit buses, which have been ordered, but will not be delivered until approximately October, 2010. When we are billed upon delivery, we will be able to indicate the FTE's associated with our order. This grant also provides a portion of the construction costs to be incurred in providing upgrades to the City Maintenance Shop necessitated by the City's conversion to CNG vehicles. Design is progressing well, but the design work is not funded by ARRA. Once construction begins in early Spring, 2010, job hours can then be calculated relating to ARRA funds provided.
