Award Description: There are three objectives of this award, to obtain a new mobile dental unit, to restructure and pave four parking lots at the new Jordan Valley Community Health Center medical clinic, and to assist in the completion of an oral surgery center in the JVCHC medical clinic. The mobile dental unit is expected to create a new source of dental services to patients who otherwise may not receive any services. The parking lot project is needed because our new medical clinic did not have any adequate parking, and this provides us with almost 200 immediate parking spots for our patient population. Finally, the oral surgery center will allow access for complicated oral surgeries to a population who otherwise may not have access.
Project Description: During the last quarter, a mobile dental unit was designed, built, and put into use. This mobile unit is now visiting nursing homes, serving elderly patients who are unable to visit the dental clinic. It provides dental care, primarily extractions, to patients who are in pain and helps to improve their quality of life. The dental unit is handicapped accessible which is essential for this patient population. The dental unit is also used for our 'Care to Give' days, that serve general population patients who have no dental insurance and have no financial means to pay for dental care. With the economic downturn, we have seen a very large increase in this need. As soon as approval is received, construction on both the parking lots and the oral surgery center will begin.
