Award Description: The project will provide for visitor access and appreciation improvements to make the Nuttallburg town site and historic district visitor ready. Following the now completed short-term stabilization work on the Nuttall Mine Structures, a portion of this project will complete needed visitor improvements. Recommendations from the recently completed Nuttallburg Visitor Use Implementation Plan/EA will broaden the visitor's understanding of the mine and the closely associated town of Nuttallburg. The actions will include provision for two new parking lots at the tipple and the rail/trail, miscellaneous fencing and other protective barriers to protect visitors from unsafe areas, coversion of the town road into interpretive paths, coke oven rehabilitation and landscaping, including stone and native ground covers to minimize maintenance and control vegetative encroachment on the resources. New site furniture, vault toilets, and interpretive waysides are also included. Priority scope elements include: lower level parking lot; switchback parking; pedestrian path network through the town site; historic building site treatments; comprehensive wayside system; coke oven bank development; primitive conveyor trail; and vault toilets. Work will consist of preparation of Predesign, Schematic Design, and Design/Build Request for Proposal (RFP) development. Scheduled delivery date for documents: 11/30/2009 (total duration of project is approximately 4 months).
