Award Description: West Carroll Parish Sheriff's Department has several high mileage, high maintenance patrol units that badly need replacing. Due to budget problems, the Sheriff's Dept. does not have the funding to do this without assistance from a grant. The Sheriff's Department has borrowed funds to supplement the budget for the past 14 years. This grant will allow the Sheriff's Department to replace three patrol units that are used daily to respond to 911 calls and motor vehicle accidents in addition to criminal patrol duties in the parish. The new patrol units will reduce maintenance costs and be more reliable when responding to emergencies.
Project Description: This award will allow the Sheriff's Dept. to replace three patrol units that currently have high mileage and high maintenance costs. Patrol units are used to answer emergency 911 calls, respond to motor vehicle accidents and citizen complaints, criminal patrols for narcotic interdiction, serve civil and criminal papers, transport inmates to and from court and other duties that are the legal responsibilities of the Sheriff's Office. The Sheriff's Dept. has a limited budget and would not be able to purchase these vehicles without the grant award. The vehicles will be purchased under Louisiana State Contract and we are currently waiting for the new contract to be confirmed by the State of Louisiana and available for making purchases.
