Award Description: The award funds services to the Marais des Cygnes National Wildlife Refuge from the Student Conservation Association's Conservation Intern (CI) program, which recruits and places qualified young people for environmental and conservation service projects. Six interns will serve as Biological Science Assistants, working with Refuge staff on research, monitorng and management activities. The Student Conservation Association is a non-profit organization with a fifty-year record of recruiting, training and maintaining youth for conservation service labor projects.
Project Description: SCA recruitment, screening and selection activities are underway to provide the refuge with candidates for selection and placement as interns.
Jobs Summary: Planned work under this award includes SCA providing and maintaining six conservation interns to assist with Refuge management activities and research. In addition to providing current work, this SCA program provides young people with training, hands-on environmental work, and conservation job skills for potential future environmental careers within DOI and elsewhere.
