Award Description: It is planned that the Capital Improvement Funds will be used to renovate 3,000 square feet of space in a building owned and operated by Access. The project will take place in the lower level of the William T. Evue Clinic, formerly used by Access' administrative staff. The renovations will cost approximately $400,000 and provide 8 additional medical exam rooms, an increase of 50 percent to this site. This project represents an efficient use of funds as the cost per square foot will approximate $135, about 60 percent of the cost of new construction. Other elements that will provide well-designed space and clinic flow include: easy access through existing stairwells and elevator; expanded area for patient reception and waiting; and proximity of provider and support staff work stations. The renovation project will result in an additional 8 medical exam rooms, increasing the physical capacity to provide medical services at this site by 50 percent. This project will also serve as an opportunity for Access to redesign its patient flow and help ensure that all patients served receive both high quality primary and ancillary care. Other changes that will be required include creating a patient waiting area as well as more space for ancillary services such as case management and health benefits counseling. The equipment and technology investments that Access will make at the William T. Evjue Clinic include electronic dental records, a new telephone system and digital x-ray. The funding for this project will directly enhance Access' capacity to provide a health care home to more people. Existing services offered at this site include medical, behavioral health, dental and a 340b pharmacy. Ancillary services offered at this site that will be available to patients include an in-house laboratory, case management and health benefits counseling. Once the renovation project is complete Access plans to hire two full-time providers and support staff. On an annual basis, it is expected that 6,000 patient visits would be generated as a result of this project, serving about 2,500 patients.

Project Description: During the past quarter, Access completed architectural plans for the renovation, hosted a bidders conference, received over 10 competitive bids and awarded renovation contract. Renovation at the William T Evjue Clinic commenced in September 2009.

Jobs Summary: Renovation related construction jobs for this project are projected as the following. 3 FTE - carpenter .5 FTE - electrician .5 FTE ? plumber (Total jobs reported: 1)
