Award Description: The primary aim of this interdisciplinary training program is to produce leading scientists who will contribute to the state of knowledge about neurobiological and psychosocial mechanisms underlying the development, maintenance, and remission of psychopathology, and the translation of this knowledge into empirically-based treatment and prevention efforts. We are requesting funds to retain a Level 0 postdoctoral fellow on this training grant. We are requesting funds to cover the stipend, health insurance, travel, and training expenses for this postdoctoral fellow at Level 1 for one year. These expenses are within the current Council-approved level. The overall goals of the Level 0 postdoctoral fellow’s research program are (a) to advance our understanding of the developmental course of depression by charting trajectories of symptoms over time in females and males using sophisticated statistical approaches to model these complex patterns of change and longitudinal associations; and (b) to investigate how physiological processes (e.g., parasympathetic and sympathetic nervous system reactivity and regulation) and contextual factors (e.g., family/environmental) contribute to the onset, maintenance, and remission of depressive symptoms and disorders. Findings from this work have clear translational implications for the treatment and prevention of mood disorders in youth.
