Award Description: The award was to design and prepare plans as well as full construction of a runway 18-36 rehabilitation. The propsed runway pavement rehabilitation will consists of milling 2' asphaltic concrete, sealing larger cracks in the exisitng pavement after milling and a 2' asphaltic concrete overlay. The principal objectives of this project are to provide infrastructure rehabilitaion which is intended to provide for the safety and enhancement of aeronautics at the Slidell Municpal Airport. The existing runway pavement is nearing the end of its normal service life of 20 years. Temperature and fatigue cracking in the pavement has become prevealent over most of the surface. To avoid future cost of total reconstruction of the pavement system an asphalt overlay is proposed.
Project Description: Project was designed and plans prepared for procurement. The construction project was bid out and awarded to the contractor. During the course of construction existing runway surface was removed and replaced with 5600 tons of asphalt concrete. Runway was restripped and opened to airtraffic.
