Award Description: Funding will improve the functioning and efficiency of the Criminal Justice system, provide prevention education and youth mentoring, assist victims of crime and fight internet crimes in the seventeen municipalites that are funded under this grant. Several municipalities will make significant upgrades to radio equipment, allowing for interoperability among municipalities, allowing for greater response in emergencies. Several muncipalities, dealing with traffic control in an ever growing population, will invest in technology upgrades to improve public safety and thereby increase the safety of pedestrians. Two municipalities will use money for increased patrols in problematic areas, allowing for increased public safety in areas not easily served by car patrols. Other municpalities will purchase patrol cars to increase car patrols. One more rural municipality will utilize funding for upgrades of weaponry and training. Another urban town will utilize its funding for improved witness interview areas. Another municipality will use the funding to continue its Muncipal Alliance against Drugs and Alcohol, a program that would have been reduced significantly if not for this funding. Another municipality would have cut its teen mentoring program without this funding. Numeric measures will be provided were applicable and narrative performance measures will be supplied where numerics are not appropriate.

Project Description: The municipalites did not expend the grant funding during the quarter ending Sept. 30 as they needed to amend their budgets to do so. We anticipate significant activity during the next quarter

Jobs Summary: This grant will create a number of part time positions that would have been eliminated, such as the coordinator of the mentoring program in Freehold Boro, and the the coordinator of the Municipal Alliance against Drugs and Alcohol in Marlboro. Additionally, this grant will support a number of supplimentary walking patrols during the summer in towns that see a large increase in poplulation but not a large increase in law enforcement funding.
