The general scope of this modification includes but is not limited to completion of remaining Property and Design Investigations; related Engineering and Health Physics studies; remedial design for residential and industrial properties; and other related activities as required by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
Project Description: The Welsbach/General Gas Mantle Contamination Site is a multi-phased project consisting of property investigations, data evaluation, reporting, and remedial design at properties contaminated with radiological wastes generated at two former gas mantle facilities. Overall activities performed on the project include, but are not limited to, Program Management, Investigation Support, Property Investigations, Data Management and Database Support, and Remedial Design. Significant services regarding property investigations and remedial design performed during this quarter with ARRA funding are described below; activities on other tasks are not provided due to reporting format restrictions.
Jobs Summary: Design efforts began immediately upon receipt of stimulus funding to ensure that construction activities can continue long term. Work activities included project planning, coordination of staff, data collection for engineering design, and long lead engineering planning activities. Teams were composed of management, engineering design, and data analysis and field team components. Management included project and program management staff, subcontracting, accounting and administrative support personnel including equipment management personnel. Engineering design included design leaders supported by a staff of engineers and scientists, CADD operators, design engineers and cost estimators. Data analysis teams included scientists and engineers, wetland scientists, geologists, data validators and radiation experts. Field teams include geophysical experts, geologists, wetland scientists, environmental engineers and scientists supported by equipment managers.
