Award Description: The COPS Hiring Recovery Program (CHRP) provides funding directly to law enforcement agencies to hire and/or rehire career law enforcement officers in an effort to create and preserve jobs, and to increase their community policing capacity and crime prevention efforts.
Project Description: The funding of five (5) additional officers will increase the sworn law enforcement staff to 164 for the City of Ocala, which will augment the community policing initiatives. In addition to calls for service, officers can evaluate from a problem-solving perspective that builds a community trust through the 55,000 residents and approximately 140,000 collectively during the business week. The Agency will enhance its community awreness through an increased intelligence lead system,which will incorporate the community policing philosophy. The Intel initiative will provide another avenue to develop problem-solving techniques. diverse partnerships require a larger work force due to the increased visibility of collaboration, which then provides a benchmark for sustainability.
