Award Description: Education Fund - for the support of public elementary, secondary, postsecondary education, and, as applicable, early childhood education programs and services
Project Description: For the support of public elementary, secondary, postsecondary education, and, as applicable, early childhood education programs and services. Report represents first phase of State Fiscal Stabilization Funds distributed to local school districts during the state's 2009 fiscal year.
Jobs Summary: The jobs reported represent 24,242 full-time equivalent positions in the K-12 education system funded with $444 million in Recovery Act dollars during the last quarter of the 2008-2009 school year. The full-time equivalent positions were calculated in accordance with US Department of Education guidance. Although 24,242 jobs reflect activity within one quarter of the award, it does not represent the full job impact over the course of the entire State Fiscal Stabilization Fund award. Washington expects that the number of jobs retained will be revised to approximately 5,000 full-time equivalent positions in the K-12 and higher education system as the award period lengthens to include the 2009-2010 school year. K-12 education positions include certificated teachers, teacher/classroom aides and other classified staff (administrative assistants, building operations, information services and other technical staff). Higher education positions include faculty and other instructional staff. In addition to the benefits to the educational system, the State Fiscal Stabilization Fund award helped Washington avoid making significant cuts in public safety, social and health services, environmental protection, and other general government services. (Total jobs reported: 24,242)
