Project Description: The Grand Portage Band of Chippewa Indians resides in Northern Minnesota. Grand Portage is located in Cook County Minnesota. The Grand Portage Band has 1107 band members, 500 living on the reservation. The numbers have been increasing with band members moving back home. Grand Portage received $149,386.00 in Stimulus funds, these funds were used to increase energy efficient low income rentals in Grand Portage. $114,386.00 was contributed to the construction of 2 duplexes that consisted of 2 bedrooms and one and a half baths. One unit is completely handicap assessable, all 4 units have metal roofs, and 95% efficient duel & off peek furnaces, energy star appliance?s, windows, doors & insulation. $15,000.00 purchased a 3 bedroom pre-existing home, $20,000.00 rehab the home to be energy efficient. Energy efficient appliances, windows, doors, and insulation were used to complete this project.
