Award Description: The supplement will employ guided discussion groups focusing on obtaining qualitative data about how various risk factors contribute to disease status as well as appropriate strategies for managing obesity and diabetes/impaired fasting glucose. The study examine the utility of nutrition education components, physical activity modules (such as Tai-chi classes), and stress reduction methods on obesity and diabetes management and prevention. It is expected that the findings from this supplement will serve as a foundation for a future intervention proposal to be submitted to the NIH for CVD, diabetes, and obesity management and prevention among Chinese immigrants in NYC. managing obesity and diabetes/IFG. Project Description: Focus group scripts were developed and refined using an iterative process to obtain feedback and input from the Chinese American Partnership for Health. Four focus groups are being scheduled in October. Analysis of the interest survey has indicated that the intervention needs to incorporate culturally tailored methods e.g., food tasting with tea to address dietary changes and Tai Chi and ping pong to promote physical activity.
