Award Description: This award funds the approved Recovery Corps: Transforming Communities granted through The Corporation for National and Community Service. With this funding, Corpsmembers will be trained to participate in weatherization and other energy efficiency work. This training will prepare Corpsmembers to expand, strengthen, or explore the possibilities of expansion in the housing, energy efficiency and green workforce fields.
Project Description: Corpsmembers are participating in the rehabilitation and weatherization of homes and rental properties. Corpsmembers are also performing home energy audits and are engaged in new ?green? construction. Energy Efficiency activates include but are not limited to installing simple in-home energy and water conservation measures and installing solar panels, solar hot water heaters and wind turbines, rainwater harvesting and recycling. This past quarter, the following activities have already been performed: 1) 731 people have received housing rehabilitation, weatherization and efficient-energy services. 2) 243 existing homes and structures were rehabilitated, weatherized or made more energy efficient. 3) 5 homes and structures were made accessible for disabled persons. 4) 1133 households/individuals received outreach, publications and other materials aimed at raising awareness on weatherization and energy efficiency.
Jobs Summary: As a result of ARRA funding, Corpsmembers across are now engaged in weatherization and energy efficiency work. Varying by site, Recovery Corps AmeriCorps Corpsmembers are serving in Full time 1700 hour positions to Minimum Time 300 hour positions. In addition to AmeriCorps positions, new staff at the site level have been hired to work directly with the weatherization crews. These positions include crew leaders and weatherization specialists.
