Award Description: Recruitment and Orientation of Students who are high school dropouts or are a part of a court system, are homeless or are at risk for any of these possiblilities. We offer a curriculum in which students are taught life skills along with a trade skill to help them become successfully self-sufficient. Students learn hands on skills in building a single family home dwelling.
Project Description: Recruitment and Orientation occurred in July. We have enrolled 20 youth to date and plan to bring in the final two students in October. School began in September with Voyageurer's Expeditionary High Schoo.. On-site is working on the new construction - a single family homeownership dwelling. Service Learning has included particpating in Bemidji's fir Stand Down for Vets. Job Readiness activities included a tour of Wells Manufacturing. Seven students are co-enrolled in CNA and Youthbuild.
