Award Description: The purpose of this project is to evaluate the quality of dredged material from the Federal navigation channels in Mobile Harbor, Alabama with respect to available placement options (upland placement, open water placement, and ocean placement). The project includes the collection of sediment cores and water samples; analytical testing of sediment, water and elutriates; ecotoxicological testing (water column bioassays, whole sediment bioassays, and bioaccumulation studies); and evaluation of test results in relation to placement criteria. The results of this program will allow for continued maintenance dredging of the channels to the authorized depth required to for safe passage of cargo and passenger vessels into the Port of Mobile.
