Award Description: Oregon Tradeswomen, Inc, which works in conjunction with the Portland metro area’s union registered construction apprenticeship programs, as well as with several major contractor associations, has been providing successful pre-apprenticeship training and placement services since 2004. We will start in training at least 198 low-income Portland area residents, graduating at least 152 and place at least 116 of them into unsubsidized construction employment at family-sustaining wages. Services will include training to industry-recognized standards, case management, intensive job placement assistance and post-placement follow-up, mentoring and support post graduation. We appreciate the opportunity to work with the General Services Administration to provide training and placement assistance so that residents gain well-paid jobs and lifelong career paths in the high-growth construction industry.
Project Description: Met with contract officers in DC. Planned for project with staff. Began creating job descriptions for new staff. Met with fiscal consultants to prepare bookkeeping processes for project. Began communicating with local agencies for student recruitment. Began making arrangements for October class.
